Jennifer Schulmeister

Jennifer specializes in providing services to children and adolescents who have complex communication needs. High-quality, evidence-based supports are provided in a fun, play-based manner. Jennifer is registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA), Speech-Language & Audiology Canada, and the International Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (ISAAC).

 

Since graduating from the University of Alberta in 2006, Jennifer has completed numerous certifications and trainings to advance her skills and better serve her clients. Her additional training has focused on the following areas: assessment and implementation of augmentative communication systems (e.g., dedicated devices such as Accents, NOVAChats, iPad communication apps such as TouchChat, LAMP WFL, Proloquo2Go, etc.), multidisciplinary assessments to diagnose complex conditions (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder), and supporting the communication of young children who have early speech and language delays. She has completed the following specialized trainings/certifications:

  • Alberta Aids to Daily Living Assessor for Speech-Generating Communication Devices

  • Introductory & Advanced Training in using Pragmatically Organized Dynamic Display (PODD) books

  • Completed Introductory & Advanced Training in Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP)

  • Trained in the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

  • Certified in American Sign Language Level 1

  • Literacy Supports for Augmentative Communication users training with Dr. Karen Erickson & Dr. David Koppenhaver

  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 Introductory & Toddler Training University of California, San Francisco

  • CanFASD Multidisciplinary Team Training for Diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders

  • PROMPT Certification (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) 

  • Training in the Kaufman Early Intervention Program for Children with Apraxia

  • Completed the "Picky Eaters versus Problem Feeders: The SOS Approach to Feeding" Training with Dr. Kay Toomey

  • Level 1, 2, and 3 Certificates - Natural Language Acquisition in Autism: Echolalia to Self-Generated Language with Marge Blanc

  • Achieved Level I, II, and III Fidelity in Koegel Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT)
